Stay Online with God

My doctor made a house call the other day. We communicated face-to-face from his office to my bedroom computer.  Another physician likened this to “the use of two-way phones on opposite sides of a glass.” My, how technology is changing our way of doing things.

During this pandemic thousands of people, now locked out of their downtown offices, continue working online from home. Students of all ages take classes online, watching their teachers’ lectures on a computer or tablet. Judges conduct arraignments and hearings online, including with those in jail. Pastors preach to congregations who watch from home.

Coronavirus. Quarantine. Social distancing. Lockdown. Masks and gloves. Isolation. Depression. Sickness. Fear. Financial losses. Daily routines have been interrupted. People have died. Businesses have closed. Jobs have been lost. Weddings and funerals have been postponed. All of us have been affected in some way. Yet, families living in lockdown have appreciated more than ever the ability to communicate online face-to-face with loved ones near and far.

But in the midst of this pandemic a strong prayer movement emerged. “A new communication network,” one pastor calls it.

For weeks, thousands of Christians across America have networked and prayed together via computer and conference calls. Repenting for our nation’s sins. Crying out for God to heal our land. To restore us to health and economic wholeness. To bless and comfort our hurting people. To break strongholds of darkness.  For many to be drawn to Jesus Christ. Declaring that His mercy, love, hope, peace, and justice will prevail.  Reports indicate that thousands have received salvation! Plus, many acts of kindness have occurred.

My favorite coffee mug has a picture of a smiley computer screen with an inscription: “Shhh…Mom’s online with God…pray continually.”

We can all go “online with God”– which for me is much more rewarding than going online with my kind family doctor. Plus, we don’t have to make an appointment with our Heavenly Father! Day or night we can share our heart’s concerns with Him. And stand in faith on His promises. I like to read Psalms 91 and 121 over my family every morning.

I recommend to you Warfare Prayers for Women, the latest book Ruthanne Garlock and I have written. In Part 9 we have 16 prayers you can join us in praying for our communities and nation. (Click on picture of the book on this website to order from Amazon).

Scripture: Restore us, O God; make your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved. (Psalm 80:3 NIV). And they were at their wits’ end. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. He caused the storm to be still. (Psalm 107:27b-29a NASB.)
