Needing Favor

“I need a favor,” you tell someone— a friend, a boss, a neighbor, even God. You’re appealing for some need/desire that you have to be met.

Perhaps you are requesting one of these: an act of kindness; something beyond the usual; help to fulfill a special request; to open a door of opportunity; to grant a promotion. Or maybe you are just asking for support, approval, or compassion.

Have you ever cried out to God for favor? I certainly have, especially when facing difficult situations. Is it alright to ask our Heavenly Father for favor? Yes! The Bible shows us (1) He wants to bestow favor and (2) He does it with showers of blessings.

The psalmist prayed, “And let the favor of the LORD be upon us; And do confirm the work of our hands.” (Psalm 90:17 NASB). “I entreat Your favor with my whole heart; be merciful and gracious to me according to Your promise.” (Psalm119:58 AMP).

The Bible records numerous accounts of people the Lord blessed with favor and mercy. Noah, Abraham, Nehemiah, Daniel, David, Esther, Ruth, Elizabeth, and Mary to name a few.

When God moved on behalf of Joseph, who had been betrayed by many, He delivered him out of his troubles. And He “gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.” (Acts 7:10 NKJV)

Some Old Testament meanings for the word favor: to be pleased with or favorable to; be delighted with; be pleased to make friends with; be graciously received; make oneself favored.” 1

It was written that Jesus kept increasing in wisdom (mental) and stature (physical), and in favor with God (spiritual) and men (social). (Luke 2:52 NASB) Did you see that? Favor with God and men!

That Scripture alone is a good prayer to personalize for favor for ourselves and our family.

Prayer: Lord, please give us wisdom and favor today in all areas where we need it (name the situation). Bring the right people into our life at the right time. May we make right decisions and take right actions. Thank You in advance for Your favor and love. Amen.

Scriptures: “For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield. (Psalm 5:12 NJKV)

“ … thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed upon us  through the prayers of many.” (2 Corinthians 1:11 NASB)

Activation: Think of specific ways that God has shown you favor in the past. Name them and thank Him.
