All Children Need Prayer
All children need prayer— the godly and the wayward, the young and the adult. Children are indeed a gift of the Lord. Our part is to love them unconditionally and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in praying for every one of their circumstances.
In my book, A Mother’s Guide to Praying for Your Children, I offer practical and Scriptural prayer suggestions covering a multitude of situations. Here are some you may want to pray for your children.
A practical prayer: Lord, guard my children (names) from wrong influences, wrong environment and wrong friends. Bring the right friends into their lives at the right time. Keep them from being deceived and walking in error.
Biblical prayer: May my child (name) like Jesus keep increasing in wisdom (mental) and stature (physical) and in favor with God (spiritual) and man (social). (Luke 2:52)
Salvation: May my children know/accept Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. (2 Peter 3:9)
Protection: Thank you, dear God, that You command Your angels concerning (names) to guard them in all their ways. (Psalm 91:11)
Students: Lord, may my child like Daniel, “show aptitude for every kind of learning (be) well informed, quick to understand and qualified to serve in the king’s palace.’ May he/she speak with wisdom and tact… and be found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding …and the ability to solve difficult problems.” (Daniel 1:4; 2,14; 5:12. NIV)
School: Pray for their teachers, coaches, close friends. (1 Timothy 2:1- 3)
Employed: If they are employed in the marketplace, pray for their bosses, co-workers, and the company that employees them. Pray that they would:
- Be a good employee, working willingly, doing their best, using their skills and talents.
- Have good relationships with employers and fellow workers.
- Learn how to balance work responsibilities with home life and not become a workaholic.
- Be a good witness for Jesus, with the Holy Spirit’s help.
Wayward Children: God, grant my child, (name) repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, that he/she may come to his/her senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. (see 2 Timothy 2:25-26, NASB, also Acts 26:18.)
All: Father, Ipray Isaiah 54:13 that all my children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be their peace.
All: I thank You, Lord, that You know the plans You have for my children, “plans for their welfare, and not for calamity, to give them a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah. 29:11 NASB)
Scripture: “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.” (Psalm 127:3 NKJV)
