Let’s Pray and Vote

The results of our upcoming elections in our national, legislative, executive, and judicial offices are critical for this nation’s future! It is extremely important –even urgent–who we elect to serve in those positions as well as who we vote for to fill state and local offices! Even before November many states are holding elections.

“Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen as His own inheritance” (Psalm 33:12 AMP).  “The thoughts and purposes of the [consistently] righteous are honest and reliable, but the counsels and designs of the wicked are treacherous.” (Proverbs 1:5 AMPC)

What if Christians show up in untold numbers to vote for candidates who uphold the United States constitution and who value what God values? What if those Christians not only vote but pray that the Scriptural foundation that our nation was built upon will be reestablished. And that we will be one nation under God, where there is liberty and justice for all.

We can do our part by voting for such candidates and encouraging our family and friends to do likewise. But we also need to pray–not only for those who will be newly elected but for all who now serve –that they legislate, implement, and protect values that are closest to God’s heart.

Before election let’s become well informed about the candidates. Let’s also be diligent in our prayers for our nation’s election process. And let’s go to the polls to cast our important vote for righteousness to reign.:

‘If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5 NIV)

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the seat of the sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in it he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2 NASB)

From our book, Warfare Prayers for Women, here is a suggested prayer for elections:

Prayer for Elections

“Father, I pray for moral, godly men and women to be supported and elected in local, state, and national elections. I ask You to expose corruption, immorality, covert agendas, and special interests. May hidden things be brought to light and dealt with speedily. Cause any elected officials with evil intentions to be replaced by candidates with integrity and a heart to honor our laws and constitution. Lord, dismantle any plans of those seeking to manipulate our election process–the essential foundation to our freedoms. I pray there will be no corruption or vote-stealing. Help our citizens to be informed, responsible voters. May they be diligent to go to the polls and use godly values as their standard when they cast their ballots. Thank You, Lord, for the freedom we enjoy to elect those who govern our nation. Amen.” (1)

Let’s pray and let’s vote! Let’s be salt and light.

Here are some applicable Scriptures:

“First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in [positions of] high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity” (1 Timothy 2:1-2 AMP).

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the seat of the sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in it he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2 NASB).

“For we take thought beforehand and aim to be honest and absolutely above suspicion, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men” (2 Corinthians. 8:21 AMPC).

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out” (Proverbs 10: 9 NIV).

A nation is exalted by the righteousness of its people, but sin heaps disgrace upon the land. (Proverbs 14:34 TPT)

“I [ God] looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30 NIV).

“I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me” (Psalm 119: 30 NKJV).

“The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9 AMPC).
