Pray for the Media
Truthful reporting? Oh, yes, we want it. Doesn’t it disturb you when some of the media outlets report slanted news? In my college journalism classes—in the dark ages– we were taught to tell both sides of a story with accuracy. We applaud those today who do. But sadly, that is not always the case.
Negative biased reporting troubles me. I spent a portion of my writing career as a newspaper reporter, magazine feature writer and guest radio reporter. Digging out the truth can sometimes be a hard and time-consuming task. But citizens deserve honest reporting.
In our book, Warfare Prayers for Women, Ruthanne Garlock and I have included the following selection to pray for the media. Hope you will join us.
Prayer for the Media
Father, thank You that in America we have freedom of the press without government control. Thank You for those who have fought to defend this right. But now, with many more print, Internet and broadcast outlets, truthful reporting is under serious attack. The enemy is using some channels and reporters to promote false news that deceives many people. Correspondents can sway voters’ opinions by reporting purposely slanted news. Lord, expose and remove those with evil agendas. Grant favor to journalists, editors and producers who are diligent in reporting the news without bias. Empower them with wisdom and courage. Bless and protect them, so the public receives a truthful narrative of news and events. And please, Lord, raise up more people in the media who will operate with integrity and godly principles. Thank You, Amen.
Scriptures:
For we take thought beforehand and aim to be honest and absolutely above suspicion, not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of men. (2 Corinthians 8:21 AMPC)
Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. (2 Peter 2:2–3a NIV)
The thoughts and purposes of the [consistently] righteous are honest and reliable, but the counsels and designs of the wicked are treacherous. (Proverbs 12: 5 AMPC)
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out. (Proverbs 10:9 NIV)
I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. (Psalm 119:30-31 NIV)
O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me. (Psalm 43:3a NASB)
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. (James 3:17 NIV)
