Write About Your Challenging Times

Challenging.  Demanding. Difficult to deal with. We’ve all had days like that sometime during this global pandemic. Have you considered writing about some of your family’s experiences during these unsettling months? What about how God helped you through tough days?

Then someday your descendants—a few generations after you, can read about them. The journal I’m writing for mine mentions situations with lockdown, quarantine, mask-wearing, social distancing, and businesses closed. But I’ve included God’s many answers to prayer and some miracles too.

What to write? During isolation/lockdown what have been the most difficult and demanding changes affecting you or your family?

Did all your family stay home? Were kids doing school online and a parent working via computer in the next room? Or did some family members continue to work in essential and/or risky jobs? How did you handle shopping needs, especially buying groceries? How did you feel if/when your church closed, or a wedding or funeral was postponed? Anyone you know contact coronavirus?  What else?

What blessings did you experience? What are you praising God for? Write it down!

My siblings and I have told our grandchildren about our days of isolation during the scary polio epidemic when we were youngsters. Our mother had overcome polio as a child. We mentioned too that our parents and grandparents lived through the Spanish influenza epidemic in 1918.   But we have no written record of personal ordeals.

The Israelites were told to relate their history to succeeding generations. Because they did, we have Bible accounts of their challenging times too. It seems apropos for us to help our descendants better understand our challenging days. But most of all we can tell them how the Lord has been our ever-present help.

Prayer: Father, thank You for being with us through difficult days. And for Your love and power that will continue to strengthen us. Amen.

Scripture: God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 NASB

For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9b AMP
